Going over argumentative essays today was a good refresher. I feel as though I just understand the format of an essay more, considering that there are different types of essays and an infinite amount of topics. Although, i do understand how an argumentative essay differs in that it has to compose of facts from credible sources. I think I understand editing pretty well so I do not feel compelled to reflect on that.
ReplyDeleteI feel that this will be the hardest essay to write only because you have to site the source, like you mentioned.
DeleteI agree, I also think that its going to be a little bit difficult.
DeleteIt's great to see that editing is a thing you don't have to worry about. Don't worry about the essays, you'll get used to them soon.
DeleteI agree that there is not much to say about the argumentative essay but much to do: plenty of research for both sides of the thesis. Also, citations are a great deal of the work.
DeleteEditing is just the final shaping of the draft. I thought it was another creative part of the process of writing an essay and it was nice to see it progress from the confusing idea, at first, to something that makes sense and conveys a message to the readers.
Argumentative essays are about investigating on a certain topic. It strengthens are information gathering, and helps us research a topic to an extent. There are so many topics to choose from. I am still stumped on what to choose, but I'll know I will find out. Editing is very important. Glad we went through this because this skill helps us strengthen are writing. It helps us find errors and improves our essay. Overall, today's activities were great.
ReplyDeleteI agree, there are so many topics to choose from and so much research to do.I too haven't chosen a topic to write about.
DeleteI agree having to choose a topic is hard especially when i have to gather informations about it. The only way i can i have good details of my essay is when I choose a topic that deals with my life or something i already have experience of.
DeleteArgumentative essay writing is an essential skill in the real world. When written accurately, a good argumentative essay should put the writer's perspective plainly for any audience - conveying thoughts and opinions in a concise way. Language is crucial to make an argumentative essay clear and effective.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the info. Language is crucial and complex to understand.
DeleteToday's activity was very useful. I learned that argumentative and expository essays are different because expository doesn't deal with as much research. However, you must site all of your research, which I think will be quite tough. In addition, editing is a major key in writing a good essay. You don't want to get a grade lower all due to grammatical errors or punctuation. Reading what you write is also very helpful. I learned that taking a day or two to reread what you write helps because it gives a feel like you are reading someone else's work.
ReplyDeleteI agree on what you are saying. I think revising should be done with more than one people.
DeleteIt's always good to look over your work. You want to make sure you are confident with your writing. Rereading will do that for you.
DeleteI think that editing an argumentative essay will the easiest part. After researching all the factual evidence, maybe our point of view of the thesis will end up being different. I think that the best would be to not take a stand before all the research is done. It is easier to decide after all the FACTS have been considered. We have to "back up" (warrant) the thesis with contrasting facts and explain why is one stand better than the other but without pointing " how other positions are wrong outright" ( from the Argumentative Essay handout in class).
DeleteEditing is a major key in writing an essay. Its how we can learn from our own mistakes!
DeleteToday's activities helped me with having a better understanding on the argumentative essay and when reading about editing I am confident I know and can do it.
ReplyDeleteIn a way, persuasive and argumentative essay are similar. It helped me understand a little the distinguish of an argumentative essay for all the other essays. Argumentative essays are more clear and concise and well-organized.
ReplyDeleteIts supporting idea is more informative and well-sought through. Writing an argumentative essay is helpful for me to not only research and proof my point of view, but to help me be open-minded to others point of view and to compare and contrast them. It would be very interesting to hear other sides of the story being backed up through research and evidence to show why they think it is what they think it is.
Today's activities were a good refresher. Argumentative/persuasive essays usually compose positive/ negative facts of a topic based on research. It involves solid proof to prove your point to persuade your readers to your side of the argument. Editing your essay is a good way to better your writing and make it more effective.
ReplyDeleteTrue and it also gives your reader an understanding in what you trying to write about.
DeleteIt was a good refresher.
DeleteYou mean expository/informative essays are similar to argumentative/ persuasive ones? Yes, they are, but the last ones, form an argument on contrasting facts where you have to use citations. Lot of research is included in the process.
DeleteI agree, you'll need a solid prove/evident to prove your statement!!
DeleteHonestly, I am a bit lost on what the lesson was today. I did not really understand, but I'll go over it when I get home.

ReplyDeleteTodays activity was very informative. I am beginning to understand more about writing argumentative/persuasive essay, formatting and editing. Then there was the writing process worksheet which provides for the reader to see all the writers work.
ReplyDeleteAn argumentative essay requires one to investigate a topic. Information from credible sources must be provided to make a concise and factual essay. Clear and logical transitions between your evidential support must be made for a more persuasive and understandable essay.
ReplyDeleteThat is good you know about this type of essay. I feel that a lot of research would have to be done for this. Good Job !
DeleteI feel like this is the most difficult essay so far based on the amount of research that has to be done.
DeleteToday's discussion is really good information. A argumentative/persuasive essay is research that is factual and you need to get info from books or the internet. Editing is the final step on your essay. You can ask a peer to assist to make sure the essay is a good one.
ReplyDeleteIt was very refreshing. And yes, peer review is a very helpful way to edit your essay.
DeleteToday gave me more insight on argumentative/persuasive essays and even editing. I feel like I can write a nice essay using what we have discussed today. I positive I am ready for those kind of essays but the editing still has me puzzled because I am not a good editor. Hopefully, I can get better and understand editing further through this course.
ReplyDeleteTrue the editing is the hard part where i also have a hard time trying to figure out what was my mistake. This why i prefer to have someone else look over my essay preview it. it's always good to have someone preview your essay and tell you what would be good to have on your essay.
DeleteIn today's class discussion, we learned about the argumentative essay. I believe that this type of essay is similar to a persuasive essay. In both types of essays, the writer must persuade the reader to agree with your topic based on the evidence you use. Although I already learned somewhat of this type of essay, it refreshed my memory of what is needed in an argumentative/persuasive essay.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt that an argumentative essay and a persuasive may have some similarities. Good eye on pointing that out!
DeleteArgumentative essay is an essay that discusses a controversy. Both sides of the argument have to be presented after the first paragraph has stated the thesis and relevance to the audience ( exigence). The general rule is to write at least 5 paragraphs, of which at least 3 present evidence supporting or discarding the thesis (warrant). The last paragraph, conclusion, should shed new light , readdress the thesis.
ReplyDeleteStage 3 of the writing process is definitely the moment where you can see the final product. It's called Editing and encompasses acronyms CLUESS and CGPS.
Rewriting was part of the polishing and reorganization of the essay's structure. Recursive action is sometimes necessary but you can , if possible, stick to your organization proposed in stage 2.
I was able to see the progress in the presentation of the material. It sounds much more coherent and polished.
You nailed everything we learned today! I'm impressed.
DeleteI like how you included the acronyms. They can be very useful especially for a person like me, who is forgetful.
DeleteToday's activity was about argumentative essay. To be honest, i am kind of lost on the lesson today. Hopefully, i'll be able to understand it more as soon as possible...
ReplyDeleteHang in there. Just one day at a time to learn more about this essay. I feel there should be more example essay to learn more about this. I know i am a visual learner.

For today's class, we went over argumentative essays. I learned a lot about about this type of essay. It will also require you to do more research than other essays. By doing your research, it allows you to learn about your topic and to understand different points of view regarding your topic. It may also help you choose a position and support it with the evidence collected during
