Reflection - Test #2 - Sec. 7 - April 8
Discuss your thoughts on taking Test #2. Were you prepared for it? If so, what strategies did you use as part of your preparation? If you were not prepared for it, what will you do next time to ensure that you do well on the test? In addition, discuss your thoughts of today's activities.

I think that I was very busy, which Is why I took the take home test. I learned from my classmates that the narrative was actually easier than I thought. For the next essay test, I plan on starting it now so I have time later to make it really good. I wish I had started on the narrative early on.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Most of the time I procrastinate and by the time my work is due, I realize my essay in not as strong and good enough. So in my experience, I believe doing our work as early as possible can save us the trouble.
DeleteI agree, the next essay needs to be done early on for better preparation and an excellent essay.
DeleteIt is actually a simple genre of essay: to tell a story. We use this in everyday life, when we tell people about "what happened."
DeleteYes, you have to determine how much time you need to write your essay, and plan ahead. I know that I feel pressured if time is short, and I am more concerned with time than the quality of the essay.
Taking the test home is good way to make your essay a good one. Keep pushing and stay focus and stay ahead.
DeleteTodays test was a great experience for me because I got to share my narrative essay and I also learned something important while writing it. I believe it was a stress reliever because we had the option to do it at home or take it in class. it also helped me prepare for my other tests I have for my other classes.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the take home test is much easier than the in-class test only because you do things on your own time and you're not put on pressure for only the class time limit.
DeleteI had no specific thesis, but the topic All About Me. I could have shared the outline that consisted of eleven roman numerals, but time is limited.
DeleteOverall, next time I will ask more questions about the assignment.
I love that option that we can take it home test or in class.
DeleteI agree, it was easier to do the take home test. I had to stress out about doing all three stages in a short amount of time. I was not able to complete the other things I was suppose to do. But this was a lesson learned, I am now prepares for the next test! :)
DeleteNo doubt, Test #2 was a challenge. I chose to do the take home test because it was more convenient for me. I was definitely prepared for the test. The writing process really helped me prepare for it. It also helped my writing by talking about something I went through first handed. It made life so much easier. Anyways, today's activities was good. It was nice sharing to everyone about our topics.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt, it was easy because I also took the take home test. It made me less stressful and made me prepared for what ever question heading my direction.
DeleteI agree that the take home test is very convenient. I took the in-class test before and because your time is limited you don't really come up with a well done essay like you could have with the take home test.
DeleteEvery writing is a challenge for me but I try to do my best. This writing that we just did was not that hard for me because I did the same topic about the all about me essay so I just needed to make it better.
DeleteI agree taking the take it home test is the best option instead in class. I also love that we can take the test in class. There are times were students have a busy schedule were the in class test best suits them. Overall, as long as we do the test.
DeleteI would say that I was better prepared for Test#2 than I was for Test#1. Although I finished my final draft last night, I would say I did a better job this time for preparation. I also included Stage one: listing and Stage 2: outlining with my first draft. However, I stay up late last night doing my final draft that I overslept and came into class late today. In addition to coming late, I didn't get to hear the other's take on their views of their topic, thesis, and what they learned.
ReplyDeleteMany of us rewrote the All About Me essay. Everyone stated it is an improved version. I did not hear much about what has been learned from this experience. I would say that it is difficult to build on something that was built with purpose, on the first place. You do touch ups mostly, and maybe a little more substance is added. You do not want the essay to "collapse" ( not to be coherent).
DeleteI know I did better this time because I did the same topic so it saved me time and I knew exactly what to do so it was much easier.

DeleteFor test two i had to take some time on choosing a topic for my essay. After choosing a topic I wrote everything i could to support it. Then I read what i wrote and corrected all the mistakes. I think I was prepared for this test because I wrote the essay beforehand and did not do the in class test. It is easier for me to have more time in writing my essays.
ReplyDeleteDid you have a peer review your essay? I agree it is much easier to write without time limitation. I also prefer to write at home because I can concentrate better since I am more comfortable.
DeleteI was having hard time trying to think of my second topic because I've been busy between work and school so I ended up doing the All About Me essay. It was easier for me because I just needed to perfect it and it saved me time.
DeleteI compressed the All About Me narrative essay in a relatively short composition; it was quite challenging to figure out how many details to leave out, in order to make it coherent. I wanted to express key moments in my life, but I still had to discern among the most important ones. I was not able to go into many details. I chose chronological order for its presentation. Since this was going to be the second time Dr. Rivera reads the same story, I added more information to it. I did all the corrections suggested after the first time, of course. I am sure that there is always room for improvement: peer reviews always bring new ideas. My goal was to keep the rough draft as a base. I am not sure if it is possible to do a completely different final draft compared to the free-writing/ rough draft. How different can it be? Would it still be considered Stage One, if it doesn't resemble Stage 3? Is editing at some point called something else, or its results? I guess answering this questions will make a better preparation for the next test.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by the number of students who were doing the test today. I prefer to write at home the three stages, but I enjoy doing stage one in class (free-writing) for practice.
I've been busy between work and school so it's been hard for me to keep up with everything. I know I didn't do good in my second test but I will try by best so I can be better.

ReplyDeleteAny test i take, it makes me nervous. I really like that there is a take home test foe our English class. This makes it easier for us students to make any corrections we need for the essay or test. I admit that I took the test in class and i felt pressured. Overall i felt good doing the test in class instead of missing school.
ReplyDeleteThe take home test helps by giving us more time to really put more thoughts into it. To be able to make corrections and strengthen it. I thought it would be better if I took the in class test but, I was hard having to organize everything in a short amount of time. I was not able to go back and make corrections. Next test, I will do the take home test so that this time, I will make sure its effective and organized. I was unsure about how I should present my test; but, after listening to all the others' essays, it gave me a clue on how I should do it. And I'm sure next time, I'll be ready and confident about it.
ReplyDeleteTest #2 wasn't really as hard. I used my All About Me essay. I made it stronger and I feel like it is better than the first one. I felt very proud of myself.
ReplyDeleteI think I was pretty prepared for test #2. I tried to pick a good topic I can build a good thesis on to make the essay more interesting and meaningful. I took the test home so I had a lot of time to think about what to write. Take home tests gives one more time to edit and revise essays as well, which really helped me. I wrote this essay using the writing process.
ReplyDeleteTest number 2 was a piece of cake for me because, I wrote about myself and who know more about them selves then yourself right. I believe my essay came with ease and I was able to finish it fast. although I may have forgotten the stages, it was still a strong essay.
