Today's experience was a little different because we started with a class photo. We also had one of our classmates, Dylan play the air guitar. Something to break the ice towards the middle of class time. Just like the rest of the days everyone is involved in the class readings. And I like how every day there's always something new to learn.
ReplyDeletehaha, I was supper nervous when Dr. Rivera asked me to play the air guitar !
DeleteI really enjoyed today's reading and the air guitar was a bonus.
DeleteExactly! Dylan's "off the hook" air guitar concert will be one to beat! He got everyone joining in! Good job Dyl! SHOT GUN FRONT ROW TICKETS!
Deletei agree with John as he encouraged Dylan's "ice breaker" performance. It was a intimidating act for anybody to perform but he did it with little to no resistance. Dr. Rivera is a great professor for the students in elaborating the English College level concepts. The descriptive essay consisted of how the author emphasizes the ideas of their perspective onto an idea, event, thing, place, or person. A descriptive essay should also leave the reader in their shoes of how they felt and saw.
DeleteThat day was an awesome day as it didnt really take that long for the 'ice' to break. Everyone was just kind of 'chill' to be honest. We know we will learn about each other sooner or later so there wasnt any problems.
DeleteToday for En100 we looked at the guides for writing descriptive essays was extremely helpful because it gave a structured guide to writing the essay.
ReplyDeleteThe hand out that was given out today really helped me understand more about the guideline for descriptive essay form.
Deleteyes, indeed!
DeleteTodays activity was interesting. We learned what a decriptive essay contains and how to cite peoples work that we may include in our own writings. lnever learned how to really cite until today. this activity was really helpful for me not only in this class ,but for all my classes.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to cite people in high school, but today's review really helped and refreshed my memory.
DeletePersonally, descriptive essays gives you that opportunity to be detailed about the story you want to write. Make the reader visiualize what your thinking. I think descriptive essays are the easiest.Descriptive essays include senses. Which is interesting because there is no limit in writing.
ReplyDeleteI think descriptive essays are the easiest as well.
Delete"I think descriptive essays are the easiest as well." (Naputi, Dylan. Class Blog) hahaha
DeleteI can't necessary agree. I mean the imagery is definitely strong and present in descriptive essays, but I see narrative essays to me, are from the person himself, I find them hard to argue about. Plus, narratives contain one source...YOU! Right? Haha
Yes, i agree with you. Descriptive essays are the easiest to write out of all the others. They paint a picture for the reader.
DeleteI also agree, Descriptive essays are the easiest to write and it also helps you notice things that you wouldn't normally notice.
DeleteDescriptive essay really help you express and tell the reader things you've been through. Also having examples about work citations help me for my papers. Reading the stories we read were very heart touching and some aggravating.
ReplyDeletethe examples for the citations helped me as well
Deleteyes they do help you express things on your story. yeah some stories are very touching and some are just weird.
DeleteToday class experience was very interesting. First, we had a class picture. I was not ready for a class picture because i did not look decent. We also had Dylan play the air guitar and sang twinkle, twinkle, little star. He had an awesome voice. Lastly, with the readings, i learned many new things today.
ReplyDeleteaww, thanks Abi (;
Deleteam I doing the comment thing right ?? haha
The air guitar was cool because he did it in an almost rock music way.
DeleteDavine! WE JUST GOT TO GET THE VIP TICKETS TO HIS CONCERT! Abi can come to ;)
DeleteHAHA!! It was very interesting today. and the class picture was a bit of a surprise. The reading was a good story.
Deletetoday we learned how to work cite our paper and write a descriptive essay. then, I sang twinkle twinkle little star in front of the class. lastly, we had to describe a picture we chose.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the picture describing at the end because others may see something in a picture we do not see.
DeleteI think that describing a picture, like how we did, shows what we as people focus on. Almost like asking if you see the glass of milk as half full, or half empty.
Deletei agree with davine!
DeleteThat picture describing is an essay brain teaser. It was implemented by Doctor Rivera last year. To me, it was more of a warm up of the brain than anything.
DeleteI can say that today was ultimately productive. Learning and emphasizing how important it is to cite your works and the different ways of citing can definitely save anyone's academic career. I can tell this class is going to be a great success due to the strong start we had.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that today was very productive. i liked how she emphasized how important it is to cite your work.
DeleteI agree as well (:
Deleteokay, before i left, the class was quite interesting. We learned how to cite sources and write descriptive essays I was looking forward to the sharing of pictures at the end of class but unfortunately, i had an emergency.
ReplyDeleteThat day, we learned some strategies on how to write essays. Annotations and underlining is what I I consider the most useful as that is what I use. At the end of the class was an essay on a picture.
ReplyDeleteThe annotation and underling really do help because we are able to point out important information.
DeleteToday we have read "Kinds of Support for Reading-Based Writing." We have read the importance of citing to avoid plagiarizing. It was an important concept to get accustomed to since the English college courses do not tolerate plagiarism. Students often get their ideas from other people's texts. We also have read two different essays and how the authors cited their quotes and ideas.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Citing is important as it stops plagiarizing which has sever penalties for us students. Penalties that will really mess our education up. We have also read about annotations and underlining.
DeleteWe can use work from other people, but we must know how to correctly give credit where credit is due.
DeleteToday we talked about stage one of the free writing process and also read an essay that gave us examples of how to write a free write. When we did the free write essay it helped me pour out all my thoughts even though it was scattered and probably made no sense. I also love getting different pictures to describe because i have been choosing antic looking photos which helps me with my up coming antic/ rustic event.
ReplyDeleteTo me, Stage One will always be the stage of most fun. It's in this stage people find a broad range of topics to write about. From the most silliest of things to the most emotionally driven topics. This Stage will forever hold the number one spot in my heart.
