Share your thoughts regarding today's activities. (Re: Writing Process: Stage One, Exploring/Experimenting/Gathering Information)

  1. It makes it easier for me to read and write. I learned what recursive is in writing process, when i saw this word i thought it meant to rewrite a word in cursive but i now find out that it meant to go back and forth to check your grammar or when reading a passage you do not understand!

    1. Recursive helps me in both reading and writing. Even after reading an essay, reading it a second time will convey a different message.

    2. Recursive is something that really helps me because some times i can just read and not understand what i am reading.

    3. In this chapter we looked at free writing which is a helpful tool in writing. It is useful because you can easily fill up a page and then go back and edit your mistakes.

  2. Today was a blast in the past for me. I had already read this chapter and it reminds me when I went over it last year. Stage One was always the fun stage for me. It let me freely explore any and all ideas I had. Whether they were ridiculous and hilarious or serious and sobering, I had free reign. Of course, I couldnt use all of them but it helped. My favorite strategy is freewriting, though I dont use 'blah, blah, blah' since I prefer to just put a line.

    1. I usually just put a line or dot dot dot but the blah blah blah was kind of fun.

    3. Stage one is definitely seems like the stage that involves the most imagination because of freewriting.

    4. Stage one does seem really interesting. It is also very helpful!

    5. Stage one does seem fun because it doesn't have to be proper grammar. Freewriting is more on gathering our thoughts and being able to organize them.

  3. Today was pretty cool. I learned a couple things. One thing i learned about it annotating. I never really understood what it meant to annotate before this class. I also learned another thing called recursive, which means to go back and forth. Lastly, one more thing I learned from today's class is free writing. It felt great just putting my thoughts down without having to revise anything. I look forward to more learning opportunities.

    1. I agree with Allan as he shared his opinion towards free-writing. It is also a great deal how he brought up recursive since it would be most likely be in our future test. Annotating too have left me puzzled. I was not too aware of the idea since not many students refer to it in aid of writing side notes.

  4. Freewriting is an absolutely helpful tool. Writing all your thoughts prior to editing will definitely lead to a more complete thought. Underlining and annotating clarifies areas that need emphasis and allows you to do so immediately.

  5. Writing for me was never easy. It's very important for me to learn about the writing process because it helped me learn to organize my thoughts and ideas by going back and forth, also known as recursive. It's very important to understand what we are reading before we write something about it. Also freewriting, underlining, and annotating helps with our grammar and topic organization which can make our essay topics more interesting for others to read.

  7. Not only have we read how to brainstorm, cluster, and free-write, we did an activity of putting into action. I was awed by Naomi's free-writing of "her hero." I admire that she shared her personal experience and a little more about herself. As we partake in the free-writing activity, I was able to practice more of jotting my ideas which I am not so fond of. I hope I will enhance my writing skills.

    1. Thank you Julie! It's very important that we have positive role models in our lives. It helps us decipher right from wrong and is always nice to hear that someone understands us. Find your role model Julie and I wish you the best.

    2. I agree with Julie! Thank you Naomi for sharing your free-writing of your hero. Free writing is a good way to share your thoughts and ideas. You don't have to worry about making mistakes in free-writing.

    3. Julie's topic about role models and hero has helped me to understand the freewriting portion of the lesson better. Thank you Julie.

    4. Actually it was Naomi that read her free-writing about her hero.

    5. I know what you mean. Writing my ideas down isnt really something I want to do as it feels like people are looking into something personal.

  8. Today's class activity was very good. We read how to freewrite and we also, did a writing excercise on freewriting. I learned that its good to freewrite about the topic before you start a rough draft so you can put your ideas in order and not have your rough draft looking really bad or confusing. I think freewriting can also help you get your thoughts on paper when you dont know how to make your sentences flow. So, when you do your rough draft you know how to arrange your paragraphs and make it all connect.

    1. Totally true. First, do a free write and then you can always go back to your sentences and find that rhythm in making it better.

    2. Yes, I can agree with you. Freewriting does help you put your ideas in order and help you shape your rough draft into your final product.

    3. I agree. Rough drafts really help keep your mind organized and you can jot down your stuff easier.

  9. I love the idea of free writing. You can write about anything with no limits. It may be possible to loose your train of thought but adding that "blah blah blah" seems to help. You can always go back to recursive your grammar or narrow down the clustered information that you added that can possibly be removed.
Coming to this class actually gives me the incentive ability to learn something new and how you can better yourself in writing.

    1. I like the idea of free writing as well. You can just write about anything and not worry about making mistakes such as spelling and punctuation. You can open your mind.

    2. I too, like free writing. It let's you write whatever you want on the subject you're writing about. Once you're done freewriting, you can go back and do recursive writing to clean it up.

    3. I also like free writing as well.

    4. Yes I agree. Regardless of the lesson, we should always have a positive attitude when coming to class. Learning something new is always a wonderful experience.

    5. The 'blah blah blah' never failed to make me smile even though it's kinda of awkward to actually use it. Instead of using that, I just put dots or a line.

  10. Today we talked about stage one of the free writing process and also read an essay that gave us examples of how to write a free write. When we did the free write essay it helped me pour out all my thoughts even though it was scattered and probably made no sense. I also love getting different pictures to describe because i have been choosing antic looking photos which helps me with my up coming antic/ rustic event.

    1. Being able to grasped the concept of freewriting makes us better writers and also makes us better at making corrections when we read other's work. Its a great skill to learn.

    2. You must really like the Brain Teasers as you've mentioned it in a past blog. Yes, freewriting is a good way of just jotting down our ideas lest we lose them....again.

I also learned about stage one of the writing process which was exploring, experimenting and gathering information. We also did a free writing activity which helped me explore my ideas. I enjoyed free writing because i got to write whatever came to mind with out being judged.

  12. Everyday we always learn something new. Another strategy that we learned was the free writing technique. Its about trying to write nonstop without worrying about grammar or spelling errors. The reason of this is just for you to fill up a blank page with all the thoughts that come to your mind about a topic. After you are done, you can always go back to your free write and then you revise it by underlining the important parts and adding ideas to your final essay. And the little activity about writing our thoughts about a post card is great because it helps us build our imagination.

    1. That's true. we learn something new everyday. Even by just looking at a picture. Even when you go to another country you learn. You learn what they do for a living, the things they do for fun and the best part is the food.

  13. Writing helps enhance your creativity. Everyday we would learn something new. Whether in school or outside of school. We would even learn something from younger generation. Or even just looking around our island we learn something. Also to me there is no such thing as a bad writer. We just need to keep practicing our writing skills. If you are doing an essay and you make lots of mistakes, it is okay. No one is perfect in making essay's. You just need to fix those areas you made mistakes on.

  14. My thoughts on today's activities about the first stage of the writing process is that it really helps develop topics to write about. Freewriting is jotting down whatever comes to mind on whatever you're writing about. After you're done free writing, you can look back on what you've just wrote and make notes by underlining and annotating. Once you gather more information about the topic, the more you can write on it.

  16. The free writing exercise yesterday(21mins ago) was very interesting. Writing down whatever came into mind made writing for me less tedious. I love how you can write down anything, and it also helps you come up with more topics. I learned about annotating and underlining, which highlight the important or interesting parts of your paper that could use some editing to be put on your final paper.
