  1. An expository essay is an essay written by someone investigating something. It is used to evaluate, investigate, and debate about a certain idea. It is most often you to compare and contrast and find out what differs. If I were to choose one of the topics below the essay, i would choose number 17: Explain the likely consequences of skipping school.

    1. That would be a great topic to write about. There are many things that can lead to missing important information.

      Delete
    2. That topic would be something to compare and contrast about. The benefits of going to school, and the consequences of skipping school.

      Delete
    3. All the topics somewhat touch our "inner self". For example, we choose a certain topic, that chosen topic will kind of expose who and what we tend to focus more on. You choose consequences of skipping school, so I think you're one to value an education and do not subside from regulations.

    4. We have lots of information about skipping school if you know what I mean.

    5. That would be a great topic to talk about.

  2. Expository essays state information of a specific topic in an effective way. Informative writing has readers understand the reading with direct facts. Direct facts shows proofs and sources of the evidence. There are different ways of writing Informative essays. People can use cause and effect, comparison, problem and solution, sequential, or descriptive essays to inform their topic.

    1. I would choose the stresses of teens' life as my topic

    2. Great topic Julie! Many teens are often misunderstood and just need a little more affection from both family and community members.

    3. True. An expository essay should be informative to the readers.

    4. Yes, that would be a great topic as well Julie. There are many things that could be discussed about in this essay.

    5. I agree with Justin. One major stressor to me, if you think about it, is when adults say "you're too young for stress" yes, teens are around parentals most of the time..but what exactly IS running through their mind? What it is that a teen does and must do that can cause so much stress? Especially, what, how, and who are the people that impose stress?

    6. I agree with Ringo. Expository essay should be informative to the readers.

    7. If you do, ill definitely use it to support my arguments with my mom.

  3. To me, expository essays are papers arguing, or persuading a reader to lean towards a certain belief. Reason for that being the paper must consist of those supportive details that a lawyer, perhaps, or even an investigator should consider before presenting to a person or people. Evidence, foundation and structure, and consistency are needed in order for such an essay. In the essay, to let the reader come to an understanding of what idea he or she should lean towards, you have to compare your idea, or opinion, to one that opposes and show a great amount of detail and support. This essay shows to require a bit more work, patience, and concentration because what the essay must consist of requires some research and evidence that need proving.

The topic of my choice is "Major stressors in teens' lives"
because teens, well certain teens, stress more than most adults may realize.

    1. Absolutely! Great topic as well.

    2. True. You would want readers to see and believe something they may not know about.

    3. I agree with your topic so much!

    4. I also agree with your topic. It will be interesting see what ideas you can come up with.

    5. That's absolutely true. Like you said, "certain teens, stress more than most adults may realize."

    6. A very long and detailed explanation. Nice.

  4. Although expository essays are similar in some ways to descriptive and narrative essays, it has one major difference. Unlike other essays, expository essays adopt the 'straight to the point' concept. They still require clear and concise language as well as proper structure. Personally, I like this best and would like to write about how music affects my life.

    1. Music would be a great topic because for most people, it can help change their lives for the better.

    2. I like how you pointed out that this kind of essay gets "straight to the point."

    3. I too believe that this type of essay relates to the others(descriptive and narrative essay).

    4. Writing about music is a great topic. What Ringo said, it does change people's lives.

    5. This is the topic that I chose. Great topic!

    6. I agree with you. I also get the same feeling even though they're different.

  5. Expository essay to me is writing mainly about facts rather than opinions. It is about arguing and giving evidence to support your topic. It can be written in comparison and contrast, definition and example, or cause and effect. The method of writing an expository essay is having a 5 paragraph set up. 1st would be having an introduction. 2nd is having 3 paragraphs of supporting information. Finally, having a conclusion at the end of your essay. The topic I would like to write about is explaining why teens smoke cigarettes. I chose this topic because smoking cigarettes is unhealthy, and most teens don't realize the affects it does to them and the people.

    1. I agree with the teens smoking cigarettes. Its unhealthy and can proceed to lung cancer. Not only does it have the affect on the individual but the second hand smokers as well.

      Delete
    2. I agree as well, there is no positive outcome of smoking cigarettes. Especially teenagers starting to smoke is a big problem now of days.

      Delete
    3. I agree. Teenagers who are in the habit of smoking need to be informed of the effects of it. It's not just the smokers but also the people around them. Second hand smoking is worse than first hand smoking.

      Delete
    4. I agree with this topic. Teens nowadays can be careless about their health.

      Delete
    5. I agree. Smoking is a bad habit, but some habits are hard to break.

  6. An expository essay is an essay that provides the writer with a means of explaining and or defining a subject to a reader. It is also an essay that introduces a specific fact about a topic and elaborate on this fact using evidence. Unlike a persuasive essay, you would not need to argue a point. Instead, you only need to describe something. A topic I would choose would be why getting a driver’s license is an important event in the lives of many teenagers because having a drivers license is very beneficial to have.

    1. Abby, you have a great point. It is very different from that of a persuasive essay.

    2. Very true Abs! Persuasive essays are like convincing essays, whereas expository essays are argumentative by which you express facts and evidence instead of personal thought and experience.

      Delete
    3. Absolutely true Abby. Driver's license is always very handy to have. Not only behind the wheel. It can also be for identification purposes.

    4. I agree. It's hard to find reliable transportations nowadays.

  7. Expository essay is specific information that is given to the reader. To me its like an explicit essay which basically gets straight to the point. If I was to choose a topic it would be about our generation on the teens. Teens have the highest percentage on various problems. Parental abuse, teen suicide, teen bullying etc. It would be nice to connect to teens that will understand the affect it holds on an individual that is being abused, bullied and which can lead to suicide.

  8. An Expository essay is a very common essay. I'd say you would find this type of writing in articles or magazines. You would write topics like: How to lose weight by exercising, or How to get over depression. Expository essays are to help you or give you examples on what happens when you do something. Writing these types of essays are rather friendly.

    1. For my topic I would try and make a how to as well, as in how to start eating healthier in fen days. Reason why? Everyone needs to be healthy and I would try and make my essay a great and fun way for people to try and start eating healthier.

  9. Expositor essays are about facts. A little bit different from descriptive and narrative essays because a expositor essay must be clear and you must state your argument and persuade whoever you are talking to that what you're writing is true. Remember to also catch your readers attention. The topic I would choose is benefits of exercise. Reason why because I love to exercise and I think it will be easy to persuade people to exercise.

    2. I love it myself as well. I love food but I love to exercise too. Sometimes we get caught up with school and work that we put it aside and not realizing that exercise is good for the heart. Great topic to motivate readers.

    4. I agree. You must persuade the reader in order to achieve a strong expository essay.

  10. Expository essays are more in depth than descriptive and narrative essays. There are more in depth on facts that are followed by proof or explanations. They also provide results and effects on a particular topic base on research or actual life scenario. If I were to choose a topic for my expository essay, I would wanna talk about "how to get over depression." I've always been a positive thinker and depression is just another obstacle in life. It should not hold anybody back.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with you. Depression shouldn't hold anyone back but to some people its hard to pull them out of that dark and lonely side. We need to surround the depressed ones with people like you, who are positive and enthusiastic!

  12. An expository essay is a type of essay that requires an idea, evaluate evidence, and to set an argument concerning the idea. Comparing and contrasting may help you come up with a clear, concise, and defined thesis statement. A thesis statement is very important in these types of essays. It acts as the main idea. If I were to write about a topic I would choose number 13.

  13. An expository essay is a debate match in paper form. You will find information that both denies and supports your topic and proceed to compare both. Doing this is a good way to find out solid facts as you are finding the solid evidence as you do contrasting. For my topic, I would use topic 5 as I have many arguments and counter arguments.

  14. An expository essay a not so thorough, but does have some research needed to prove a point. It compares and contrast ideas to come to a well defined conclusion. I choose if I were to become an animal what animal would I become. I am always intrigued about animals especially ocean dwelling ones. With all their freedom to swim about makes me jealous.
